Cupping at A Family Practice & Wellness Center

If you've been struggling with chronic pain and other health challenges, you can benefit greatly from the holistic healing techniques offered at A Family Practice & Wellness Center in Cartersville GA. Among these techniques is a tried-and-true Eastern modality known as cupping. If we determine that your condition can be improved by this form of therapy, either chiropractor at our clinic may recommend it alongside our other safe, natural modalities.

How Cupping Works

Cupping belongs to the ancient world of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This technique, which seems to have first appeared during the Han dynasty, involves the application of cups to specific areas of the body. When the cups are heated, a negative pressure develops inside them. This vacuum pulls on the skin and draws blood into the underlying tissues. The cups may be left in place for a couple of minutes at a time, or they may be moved along the skin to convey the same circulatory boost to other parts of the body. While traditional practitioners believed that the benefits of cupping involved the manipulation of chi (life energy), today's Western doctors recognize that increasing blood flow and lymphatic drainage can aid in tissue repair, reduce swelling, and relax chronically tight muscles. Cupping may be prescribed to help treat:

  • Chronic inflammatory pain conditions such as arthritis
  • Muscle knots and trigger points
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Hypertension
  • Adhesions (internal scar tissue buildup)
  • Migraine headaches

The benefits of cupping may extend to any condition that responds well to circulatory enhancement or tissue manipulation.

Safe, Non-Invasive Care from Dr. Eric Fromm and Dr. Scott Habers

Our chiropractic team of Dr. Eric Fromm and Dr. Scott Habers will evaluate your individual condition in great detail to determine what kind of holistic healing or pain management plan makes the most sense for you. Cupping makes an excellent accompaniment to therapies such as chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture, massage and/or dry needling. All you have to do is rest comfortably for a few minutes while the heated cups do their work. Most patients can experience significant benefits from the application of just a few cups. You may notice some redness some temporary redness or bruise afterward, but the experience of cupping is quite soothing and relaxing.
